"H2O"
-water in all its forms-At our most recent concert we premiered "Undercurrents Redux" by New Jersey composer, David Sampson. The piece was a meditation on the composers' visions of his youth spent in and around the waterways of New Jersey. A lyrical opening, rhythmic interplay and a tempestuous ending garnered long applause for the work! Our thanks to the lovely and talented Argine Safari, a graduate of Moscow Conservatory, who performed piano duos with Ron.
Special Thanks go to our volunteers Jay & Stuart who have now been helping us for four years! Wow!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!
PV's 2010 Young Artist Winner
Emile Hsu - Percussion
Northern Highlands High School - Allendale, NJ"Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve learned to love all kinds of music and the sounds that developed along with it. Being sensitive to these different sounds, beats, and rhythms made me lean towards all kinds of music, classical or contemporary. From the first notes of “Fantasia” to the ending chord of The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper”, I wanted to be somehow part of it all. In a quest to fulfill this desire, I started learning how to play piano, percussion, and guitar, all at a relatively young age. After developing my playing skills and being involved with various music ensembles over the years, I still longed to express myself in a way more personal than just performing. Soon, I started writing my own songs, and eventually building a makeshift recording studio in my basement to make my own albums. So far, I’ve made three, and am still in the works of a fourth one. But I haven’t given up performing with ensembles. In my high school years, I have been involved with my high school music ensembles (wind ensemble, concert choir, marching band, and recently the school’s A Capella group), played timpani with various honor bands (Bergen County Band, All North Jersey Region I Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, and the New Jersey All State Wind Ensemble and Orchestra), and even went to Interlochen. All these major achievements made me learn one thing: Music is not just an art; it is a way life."Here is Emile receiving his award. A student who is truly excelling (he just won 1st Timpani in All-State again!) he had this to say about music and the role it plays in his life.

"Their performances are technically faultless and illuminating. I chose Volume 3 for my Want List, but Volumes 1 and 2 of this ongoing series are equally meritorious." - William Zagorski - Fanfare Magazine
